Choose The Right Necklace For The Right Occasion

Back in the days, people used to wear things that they can see on the ground like a necklace made out of twigs or leaves. They usually use animal’s teeth, rocks, claws and pottery as pendants. But nowadays, people won’t literally just pick up something from the ground to use as an adornment on their necks.

There is a wide array of necklaces in the market right now that you can choose; from silver necklaces, gold necklaces and even beaded necklaces. Pendants are also more precious now that they usually use diamonds and other precious gemstones. You can also choose to just layer your silver necklace or pile it on to combine gold and silver or any other color. The most popular pendant would have to be the pearl whether it is faux or not. Pearls come in different colors although the most popular one is the white one because it just exudes sophistication and it is a very classic piece. Some people have pearl pendants with their gold or silver necklace while others prefer the full beaded pearl necklace.

When it comes to chains, those who want to stick to the classic style opt for the gold necklaces. Usually, older generations pick this kind of color. However, the younger generation are also embracing gold-colored necklaces too because it does exude funkiness. Men are also a fan of the gold necklaces. However, they tend to go for the thicker pieces and they usually wear it without pendants.

The younger generation tends to lean towards a silver necklace. Silver necklaces are considered inexpensive compared to gold ones. The great thing about a silver necklace is that even if it is faux, it doesn’t tarnish much compared to gold accessories which look more obvious when they are already not in a good condition.

Beaded necklaces are normally used in the beach or during summer days. It usually looks great on sun dresses and maxi dresses. Beaded necklaces are the most inexpensive accessories compared to a gold necklace or a silver necklace. This is because the materials used for these are either made from wood, plastic or metal. However, there are also expensive beaded necklaces especially if they are rare.

When cleaning these necklaces, you have to take into consideration that there are different ways for each material. For instance, in cleaning a gold necklace, you have to use warm water, put a little soap in it and then wipe the necklace with the solution using a soft cloth.

In cleaning a silver necklace, you have to use a special silver cleaning solution to remove tarnishing spots. You can buy this solution in the market.

For beaded necklaces, you can simply use a damp cloth to wipe off the dirt and dust.

White gold is a popular metal for rings and other fine jewelry. With good care, you can keep a white gold ring looking beautiful, but it sometimes requires maintenance beyond what is required for yellow gold. Most white gold is plated with rhodium, which keeps it whiter than the gold would appear in its natural state. Dulling of white gold may result from lack of cleaning or from this plating wearing off.

Keep your white gold rings clean by washing them in soapy water; use a mild hand soap. Add a little ammonia (just a drop) to the soapy water for added cleaning strength. Use a soft cloth when cleaning to avoid scratching the ring. Take your white gold to a jeweler if it starts to yellow. Many jewelers can bring it back to its original white finish by replacing the rhodium plating. Remove white gold rings before working with chemicals. Household chemicals such as bleach may damage metals. Likewise, chemicals in cosmetic and styling products may adversely react with jewelry. Store white gold rings in a soft jewelry case or cloth to prevent scratches.

You can easily transform a bandana into a cute wristband. It’s nice that there are so many patterns and colors to choose from these days. However, the traditional navy or red bandana seems to go with any pair of casual jeans. To dress up your outfit, choose a coordinating colored bandana and attach a fancy pin to the top of the wristband. This simple project will take only minutes to complete, but is easier if you have someone to help you do it.

»Fold your bandana in half, making a triangle.

» Pull the bottom tip up and make a 2-inch fold. Continue folding the same length until you reach the long end of the triangle, making a strip.

»Place the bandana strip on the underside of your wrist. Have someone help by pulling the bandana up to the top of your wrist and criss-cross it. Bring the bandana ends to the under side of your wrist and tie a square not (or tie it twice).

»Pin a decorative pin over the top of your wrist where the bandana criss-crosses. You might need that extra pair of hands to complete this. You just made a bandana wristband!!!!!!! Nice isn’t it?

headband is a clothing accesory worn in the hair or around the forehead, usually to hold hair away from the face or eyes. Headbands generally consist of a loop of elastic  material or a horseshoe-shaped piece of flexible plastic or metal. They come in assorted shapes and sizes and are used for both practical and fashion purposes.

If you want to keep your hair out of your face or you just want to sport a headband as a cool fashion accessory, slipping one on is easy. These inexpensive hair accessories come in so many colors and styles, you can have one to match any outfit.

1. Choose headband. While there are headbands in virtually every color, your headband doesn’t have to exactly match your outfit. A neutral colored headband in black, brown, tan or tortoiseshell can go with just about anything.

2. Slip headband on. The easiest headbands to wear simply slip on your head, but some styles have an elastic band that slips under your hair at the nape of your neck for added security.

3. Wear bangs under the headband if you want them out of your face. This is useful when you’re trying to grow your bangs out and need an option for keeping them out of the way.

4. Wear bangs in front of the band if you prefer that look.

5. Keep your hair loose behind the headband or pull it into a low ponytail. You can also style your hair into a casual up-do

What You Need to Know:

  1. Origin. Coral reefs are the product of living creatures. The coral reefs grow in colonies in warm ocean waters around the world. Animals called coral polyps create the beautiful gem. Jewelry-grade coral is found primarily in the Pacific Ocean and Mediterranean Sea. Coral is not harvested from protected species such as those found in Australia’s Great Barrier Reef.
  2. Colors. High-quality coral comes in a wide selection of colors. Red coral is the most common and is very popular in jewelry. Pink, orange and blue coral are also common in jewelry. The highest quality coral is even in color. Color irregularities in coral may indicate cracks or voids that have been filled in with colored wax.

Coral is also cut into large pendants, teardrop earrings and other unique shapes. Irregularly-shaped coral chips are also good for use in jewelry and are commonly strung together in groups for necklaces, bracelets or earrings.

Often, you’ll find coral paired with other stones of complementary colors. Turquoise, garnet and pearls are common coral accompaniments.
